Who doesn’t have a yarn stash? Who doesn’t like to see what other people are making and show off their own stuff?
Back in the day, I could imagine a tool to share all of this information online, but I could also imagine all of the tedious backend work to make it a reality. Yuck!
But a core of dedicated people made it happen. It’s called Ravelry.com. What a treasure – especially if you’ve never been there or heard of it. Sarah and I are trying to check off one of our New Year’s resolutions to use Ravelry to its fullest.
So, here are 6 things you (and we) can do to make the most of this incredible tool to make our knitting/crocheting better and so much more fun!
1. Sign up/make an account.
It gives you a world of options, including being able to favorite patterns, and having a library to hold the patterns you download.
2. Add your stash to your account.
You’ll be able to see who else has the same yarns and what projects people have used that yarn for in the past. This can inspire you to think of news ways to use your stash.
3. Choose favorite patterns.
This is such a great way to look back at project ideas when you’re ready to start a project.
4. Look at favorite patterns to see what other pattern’s this designer has created.
You may find something you like even better!
5. Read the Ravelry blog
They’re constantly highlighting lots of new and trending ideas in the word of stitching.
6. Look at photos of other people’s creations of your favorite pattern.
This helps you get an idea of different ways people have interpreted your favorite pattern and can help you visualize how you want your next project to look.
