This is a concept that my daughter has taught me about. We took a long weekend last summer with the SOs to Kentucky ostensibly to visit distilleries, but the real purpose was for Sarah to make a pilgrimage to The Woolery in Lexington, Kentucky.
While we were there, I saw Sarah through the eyes of her people: those obsessed with all things fiber. The great people there let her try out a number of spinning wheels so that months later, at a local yarn shop near me (the Yarn Studio in Casey, Illinois,) she was ready to purchase her own wheel.
When Sarah knows she will be going out of town, she actively looks up the local yarn shops in the area so that she can visit them during her stay. She gets to meet lots of new people who share her passion and see new yarns, patterns, and sample creations. The yarn she purchases to add to her stash come with lots of stories and memories that you don’t get when you order yarn online.
I wouldn’t miss this (yarn) journey for anything! I do admit that I frequently feel like I’ve gone down the rabbit hole – but I can’t wait for the next adventure!
