Finding time when work takes over

Finding time when work threatens to take over is a hard spot to be in. I have started working 12 hour days most likely for the next month. I know there are people who work like this normally and I get that I sound like I’m whining, but I’ve never worked this many hours before. I’ve been in the workforce for a little over 2 years and this is the worst it’s ever been. 24h/day -12work-8h sleep =4 hours. Half of that time I’m on the train. That’s my daily breakdown right now.

Since my options are overtime or finding a new job ( I actually quite like my job except for this fiasco), I work overtime and I knit whenever I can get 5 minutes together while my brain is still active. I knit in the morning and evening during commutes and I knit during my overtime while waiting for my computer to stop spinning that little circle ?. That’s about all the knitting time I’ve got right now. While it’s not enough for me, it’s doing a good job of calming me down before and after those long hours.

Those long hours will be over for me soon but for others it’s just another week in their lifetime of long hours.

I just wanted to put out into the ether that to all those who work longer hours and have to take care of themselves and others, whether it be kids or family, I’m here for you. You will always be my superheros. In order to keep going, you can’t neglect your mental health. Take five minutes to breathe in and out with or without knitting in your hands when you’re feeling overwhelmed. Remember we love you and we’re pulling for you and fight on.

Much love to all,

S
