Even though my local yarn shop is only about 20 minutes away, I don’t find myself going there as often as I’d like. Mr. SWK (Sarah’s dad and my husband) likes to go but he is so busy with work and plans with our adult children that it doesn’t happen very often that we say, “gee, we have no plans this weekend – let’s go down to Casey.” However, several months ago, I showed off my lovely stitch markers that I bought several months ago at the Yarn Studio in Casey, and Sarah coveted them. I told her I’d buy her some the next time we went there.
So, last Saturday, her dad and I headed down to Casey for stitch markers and maybe a cupcake (at the shop across the street.) Lo and behold, when I got there, they were in the middle of a yarn sale (20% off – not bad!). So I looked at the yarn, which I had promised myself not to do. Oh well.
I found some lovely Cascade Longwood (extrafine 100% merino) – so soft- and in muted “guy scarf” colors! He said he’d like a scarf (good call!) and picked out a lovely blue to go with his dress coat.
We also found that the Yarn Studio had created a line of hand-dyed yarns (Clark County) to meet requests for locally made products from customers that were passing through the area (although it’s in a rural area, Casey is just off I-70) The sock yarn was fabulous! We picked out 2 brightly-colored skeins (neon yellow and pink) because Sarah loves to make wild-colored socks and 2 muted skeins (brown and blue) for her to make her dad socks – that he would actually wear.
I also bought a skein of Juniper Moon Farm Moonshine in a purple to match some grey and pink skeins already in the stash, four skeins of baby llama (so soft!), a skein of bulky maroon wool yarn for mittens and yes, the stitch markers I promised Sarah. Whew!
Time for cupcakes. At least when I went on a yarn binge, half of it was for Sarah!

P.S.
I like it when Mom goes on yarn binges and it’s half for me too!
